Navigating the Energy Transition: The Strategic Role of LNG in the Maritime Industry – Indonesia Marine & Offshore Conference (IMOC) 2026

It was an honor to represent the Indonesian National Shipowners’ Association (INSA) as a speaker at the Indonesia Marine & Offshore Conference (IMOC) 2026, held during the Indonesia Marine & Offshore Expo 2026 in Batam.

My presentation focused on the strategic role of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) as a practical bridge in the maritime industry’s energy transition. While the long-term vision is net-zero emissions, LNG offers an immediate and realistic pathway to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions while maintaining energy security and operational reliability.

Indonesia is uniquely positioned to become a global leader in this transition. With one of the world’s largest natural gas reserves, it is essential that we maximize the value of these resources—not only as an export commodity but also as a catalyst for strengthening our domestic maritime industry and enhancing national competitiveness.

The transition to cleaner shipping is not solely about environmental responsibility. It is equally about energy resilience, industrial competitiveness, technological innovation, and creating sustainable economic growth for Indonesia.

My sincere appreciation to INSA, the organizing committee, fellow speakers, industry leaders, and all participants for the insightful discussions and valuable exchange of ideas. I hope today’s session contributes to accelerating collaboration toward a greener, smarter, and more competitive Indonesian maritime sector.

Together, we don’t just navigate the oceans—we navigate the future.
